Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official in the United American. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After starting her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election making her the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress and the first South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, she advocated for healthcare reform, federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legal, the DREAM Act, a ban of assault weapons and progressive tax reform. The attention of the nation was drawn by her shrewd examination of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
